Mental health on the mind for Toolbox Talk
Supporting mental health issues in Morgan Sindall is extremely important. To reinforce our occupational health and wellbeing strategy, we’ve partnered with mental health charity Mind, who work with us to assess our approach to mental health. As part of this we’ve undertaken two Workplace Wellbeing Index Surveys, in 2016 and 2017, achieving a Bronze award in each.
In the latest survey we scored 64% (an improvement from 53% in our 2016 survey). The survey also showed that 68% of people felt their workload was manageable and 70% felt happy at work.
Our Safety, Health and Wellbeing team has been working to distribute some of the improvement tools and initiatives being implemented over 2018 and beyond. As part of this, the business has set up a dedicated Wellbeing Forum, trained mental health first aiders, and held mental health awareness courses across the business.
At the West Suffolk Operation Hub project, we have two Mental Health First Aiders (Neil Perryman and Ruby Weingaertner) who recently delivered a dedicated Mental Health Toolbox Talk for all the workers on site, providing bacon rolls and more detail about how our colleagues can access help and support on any challenges they face. The feedback from the event was excellent, with many commenting that they simply didn’t realise just how common mental health issues were.
